Tribesmen’s rising star, Lisa Dilleen, added another title to her growing list at the Queen’s Rowing Regatta in Belfast on Saturday.
Following a solid winter’s work which saw her claim the British indoor rowing junior title and the Irish indoor title, Dilleen demonstrated her ability on the water with a win over the fastest woman in Ireland at Queen’s Regatta on Saturday last.
In beating Sanita Puspure, Dilleen overcame the rower, who in the absence of world champion Sinead Jennings, is the top senior women’s sculler in Ireland today. Dilleen executed a strategically mature race; holding a slight lead until the 1,000m mark before stamping her authority on the field and stretching away from the pack. Although Puspure went with her, she could not keep pace with the Galway rower who finished comfortably to take the title.
It was the highlight of the day’s events for the Galway club that bagged another four gold medals. The intermediate single and the women’s senior 4 (with Sarah Egan, Rachel Egan and Aisling Harris ) shone in their events, while Tribesmen rounded off a good day with Rachel Egan and Sarah Egan winning the women’s junior 18 pair and the women’s J15 double crew of Ailbhe Raftery and Natalie Hehir also claiming gold.
