Galway Rape Crisis Centre wants to reassure those in the community who may be seeking help that they are still there and are ready and available to provide support and counselling.
Since 1984, Galway Rape Crisis Centre has provided counselling and other support services to women, men and young people aged 14 years and upwards who are affected by sexual abuse and sexual violence throughout Galway City and County.
Last year, the charity provided over 3,000 appointments to those in the community seeking support. To overcome the regulations on distancing while still continuing the charities essential frontline services, GRCC counsellors commenced counselling remotely a number of weeks ago ensuring clients are supported during this difficult time.
There are fears that the current lockdown has seen an upsurge in sexual and domestic violence incidents; GRCC wants to reassure anyone who has been affected that they are not alone and has asked them to please reach out for help and support.
Cathy Connolly, Executive Director of GRCC has said “We want anyone who has experienced sexual violence or abuse to know that help and support are available, you do not have to go through this alone. We are here and we believe you.” If you or someone you know needs to talk, please call the free confidential helpline on 1800 355 355, Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or call the national 24-hour helpline on 1800 778 888.
