Connacht Rugby launches new jersey to support frontline workers

Connacht Rugby has collaborated to create a limited-edition ‘Heroes’ jersey in aid of ALONE and the Galway and Mayo/Roscommon hospices

With partners Elverys and BLK, the jersey boasts a unique design inspired by Superheroes, as Connacht's way of saying thank you to the frontline workers.

"During these unprecedented times, ALONE and the Hospices are unrelenting in their support of our most vulnerable in society," says Connacht Rugby media officer Stephen Long. "To support their trojan efforts and by way of support to all our frontline workers, 100 per cent of profits from this limited-edition jersey will go directly to ALONE and the two Connacht-based hospices.

"The jersey sports a design inspired by Superheroes, reminding us they are not the only ones who wear capes and is our way of saying thanks to all superheroes fighting day in, day out to make the lives of the most vulnerable better."

It also boasts a caption ‘Home Advantage’ as a reminder this game is won by staying at home, but "is also a nod to what will be brighter and healthier days ahead" for Connacht at the Sportsground.

The limited-edition jersey is now available exclusively on a pre-order basis on www.elverys.ie and costs €70 for an adult, starting at €48 for children. The direct link to purchase the jersey is https://bit.ly/3fC8fOV

ALONE’s support line is available at 0818 222 024 from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week, supporting the clinical advice and information being provided by the HSE. The ALONE helpline offers advice and support for COVID-19 and other issues that are coming up for older people at this time, including difficulties in relation to physical and mental health, loneliness, isolation, finance, safety, and housing.

Corinthians McNulty is a 'Rising Star'

Corinthians and Connacht Rugby academy player Oran McNulty has won this season's Rising Star in the Energia Men's AIL division 2b .

Fullback Oran McNulty has enjoyed a remarkable season for his club and also for the Irish Under 20s this season, having come through the Exiles programme to Connacht.

Corinthians were in contention for promotion before Covid-19 halted all sport in Ireland.

Corinthians' coach JP Cooney says the award is testament to McNulty's hard work.

“I couldn't be happier for Oran receiving the rising star of the year for 2B. It is wonderful to see that all his hard work, on and off the pitch, has paid off for him. The award is a true testament to his hard work and everyone at Galway Corinthians RFC to enable Oran not only to express himself and perform for us, but for his province and his country. There will be big things to come from Oran for the coming year.”
