New software engineering jobs announced for Galway

Jobs at Fidelity will come on stream ahead of any lockdown restrictions being eased

One hundred new jobs for Galway and Dublin, mainly in the area of software engineering, have been announced by Fidelity Investments, a Boston multinational financial services firm.

Fidelity has 1,100 staff in Ireland, and the jobs for Galway will be located at Fidelity’s premises in the Ballybrit Industrial Estate. To ensure they can come into effect before the pandemic has passed, Fidelity has indicated it will provide online hiring and training mechanisms, together with wide-ranging work-from-home flexibility and support to ensure the safety of employees.

'This announcement is a clear indicator we will succeed in returning to normal economic activity'

Fine Gael Galway West TD, Hildegarde Naughton, welcomed the announcement, saying: "It is a mark of confidence in Galway that, even during these difficult days, foreign direct investment continues to flow into the capital of the West. It is a very welcome shot in the arm for the economy. While we are presently enduring a difficult period, this announcement is a clear indicator we will succeed in returning to normal economic activity."
