The Galway Pride parade has become the latest casualty of the Covid-19 pandemic, with this annual August march through Galway city cancelled.
Galway Pride is Ireland's longest running annual Pride, with the parade having taken place every year for the past 30 years. However, with the current Covid-19 restrictions due to remain in place for large festivals until the Autumn, a public parade was "not on the cards", according to the organisers, Galway Community Pride.
"In light of the HSE guidelines we are making the hard decision to postpone this year's Pride festival that was due to take place from August 10 to 16," GCP said in a statement.

The GCP chair, Aoibhin Keighron, said the committee were "very much looking forward" to Pride 2020 "but the health and safety of our community is our number one priority right now." The Pride committee also thanked frontline staff and healthcare workers for "taking care of this country during the pandemic".
"It is extremely important we all follow the guidelines and stay at home," the Pride committee said. "We will get through this together and come out stronger. We look forward to when we can all meet again and come together to celebrate Pride in Galway once more."
