Galway has an opportunity to demonstrate social innovation and to use the assets it has, that is according to city councillor Martina O’Connor.
The Green Party councillor said; “Galwegians are going to extraordinary lengths to stay apart but with sometimes narrow footpaths, they have no choice but to pass each other.
“Our parks are closed and many parts of our amenities. Now let’s do something positive - open our roads to cyclists and walkers. This would widen the pathways.”
Green Party Senator Pauline O’Reilly added; “It is time to be innovative with our use of space to support people to stay safe. In Salthill, we should remove parking and in the city centre, we should take the opportunity to close the roads to cars. It is also an opportunity to close the former rat run in Renmore.
“I have seen signs on the footpaths in Eyre Square that say that people should stay two metres apart but the painted signs themselves are less than a metre wide.”
