Lockdown abroad - James Mahon

Glasgow, Scotland

"I am a university lecturer and run a BA journalism degree at the University of the west of Scotland. We are moving into online lecturing and remote teaching equipped and aided by Microsoft teams, Skype business, and Facebook and WhatsApp group calls.

"Our journalism students are all in isolation in their accommodations and contributing remotely to a Wordpress news site uwsnewsroom.com and our Erasmus students haven been called home by UL. Also as a professional broadcast journalist, we are being asked to have home studios set up and can contribute that way for national broadcasters.

"In some ways the student journalists are enjoying this approach to teaching more. They are of a new media persuasion and are social media savvy and feel empowered. User generated content is on the rise and we trust our students, our editorial decision making, and each other.

"Now is about communication and adapting."
