An East Galway TD is highlighting the availability of the online BorrowBox library services.
Minister for the Diaspora and International Development, Ciaran Cannon, said that people need to use all devices and means to keep occupied while the current situation plays out.
Deputy Cannon said; “It is inevitable that people will have additional time on their hands at home during this very difficult time and as our public libraries in our local towns are closed until further notice, I would like to highlight the excellent free service which people can access online called BorrowBox.
“Effectively, you can join the library from the comfort of your own home by filling out the application form at https://lgma.iii.com/selfreg and you will get a temporary library number and can set up a library pin.
“The service gives users access to ebooks and audiobooks and there are a variety of other services available too which include online newspapers and magazines. In addition there are many books that parents can use with their children to help in keeping up with their education in the weeks ahead.”
Minister Cannon added; “Each person and family will find their own means of dealing with the current crisis and the need to increase the time spent indoors but people need to use all devices and means to keep occupied while the current situation plays out and reading will help in its own way with keeping focused and calm. BorrowBox is a superb free service available to everyone and opens up a whole new world of learning and leisure.”
