Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII ) has given the go ahead for road improvements to be made on a dangerous bend between Headford and Caherlistrane .
The bend which is located in Myrehill, has long been considered a black spot for accidents.
Fine Gael councillor Andrew Reddington welcomed the news saying; "Last September a huge accident occurred in Myrehill, Caherlistrane. The following day I met with senior engineers from the Galway County Council and also made representations to the TII. The road is the main artery between Galway and Mayo and it has become a black spot for accidents [and] I can confirm that since last September, there have been six more accidents
"Last Monday, Transport Infrastructure Ireland confirmed to me that they were giving the go ahead for the project. This is just one of the many corners on the road between Headord and Caherlistrane. During last May’s Local Election, I promised the people of Myrehill that I would work tirelessly to make sure that this would be done."
The Tuam electoral area councillor also confirmed roadworks on the N84, between Headford and Shrule, would commence on Monday.
He said; "I am delighted to confirm that road improvements of the dangerous bend on the N84, between Headford and Shrule, will commence on Monday March 23 which will continue for three weeks. Traffic management will be in place for the duration of the works with a traffic light system reducing the road to one lane."
