Galway Street Club annual St Patrick's Day shows

An evening show before, and an afternoon show on, Ireland's national holiday

IT IS fast becoming a Galway institution - Galway Street Club's annual shows for the St Patrick's Day period - with the multi-national band playing the Róisín Dubh on Monday March 16 at 9pm and Tuesday 17 at 6pm.

"This will be our fourth year in a row playing the Róisín for the St Patrick's festivities," says vocalist/guitarist, Spud Kennedy. "It has become a tradition and, in a way, become the date on the calendar that signals our comeback after our winter break."

Formed in March 2016, Galway Street Club is a collective of street musicians from Argentina, Russia, New Mexico, Texas, Germany, France, and Ireland, who came together after a random jam on Shop Street. They play a highly-energetic set, drawing on blues, rock, ska, folk, Americana, and trad.

Four years and one album later, the band have visited eight countries, having played more than 40 cities and towns; numerous festivals; and they have supported Madness, Alabama 3, and King Kong Company.

According to Spud, the band are working on new music. "We have tonnes of new material," he said, "but we want to record something that both excites us and we can be proud of. Busking is usually where our material gets flushed out and fine tuned but now, due to the introduction of the busking by-laws, we have had to change up the process a bit. We are figuring it out though and we are all excited for a new body of work and where it will lead us".

Admission is €7/5. See www.roisindubh.net
