Athenry Gaelscoil campus moving ahead says Canney

The Department of Education is finalising the accommodation schedules for the new Gaelscoil campus in Athenry, that is according Minister for Rural Affairs, Seán Canney.

Minister Canney said the Department had also confirmed that once the schedules were ready, the project would be devolved to the Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board for the appointment of a design team.

He said; "I am asking the Department of Education to move on this as quickly as possible because the demand for the campus to host both the primary and secondary Gaelscoils is enormous. Students, staff, and parents have historically been subjected to minimal standards but we need now to provide a modern educational facility that is fit for purpose in the modern age.

"Education is the foundation of a successful economy and educational facilities need to be of the highest standard. I will continue to monitor progress on the Gaelscoil campus and ensure that the project remains a key priority for Athenry."
