Strong results at first Connacht Property Auction of 2020

The Connacht Property Auction held its first public auction of 2020 on Thursday in The Menlo Park Hotel, Galway. Of the 17 properties on offer, 14 were successfully sold, giving an 82 per cent success rate for the first event of the year. After a successful run of auctions in 2019, the auction team were expected to start 2020 off in a similar manner and they did not disappoint with strong interest in the majority of lots that were offered.

Patrick Folan, director of The Connacht Property Auction, said: “The success of our auctions is down to the extensive marketing campaign we undertake in Ireland and abroad in the lead up to the auction. We also work in close partnership with a network of 50 local partner estate agents from throughout the province. This combination of both access to the local buying pool and the broader reach of the auction ensures we have the best chance of finding buyers for all properties we offer for sale.”

The first lot offered at the February 20 auction was a two bed thatched cottage ideally located just off the main street of Clarinbridge. The property was offered for sale in partnership with RE/MAX Property Experts, Galway city. There was strong local and outside interest in this well located property, with more than 40 enquiries, before it sold at the live auction event for €155,000.

In Oranmore, also in partnership with RE/MAX Property Experts, a well-located bungalow was successfully sold. The property at Carnmore West, which was presented in great condition throughout, had early interest and was sold for €252,500 to a delighted new owner.

An exceptional four bed family home was sold in partnership with O'Malley Properties, Westport. The property at Slaugar, Westport, was subject to strong pre-auction interest and the vendor decided to accept a bid of €305,000 prior to the live event on Thursday.

Elsewhere in Mayo, a three bed family residence along with a separate self-contained one bed apartment located in Coolagagh, Foxford, was successfully sold. Both properties sold as one lot in partnership with Gerry Rowland auctioneers and saw significant interest in the lead up to the auction event before selling for €220,000.

Back in Galway, in partnership with Paddy Keane auctioneer, approximately 15.5 acres of forestry was sold during the live auction event. The land, located at Derroghs, Kilkerrin, sold for €32,500 to a pre-registered phone bidder.

The final lot of the evening was a two bed ground floor apartment, located in a popular residential development in Tubbercurry, Sligo. The apartment was offered in partnership with Connaught Property. Bidding opened at €40,000 with two phone bidders and it sold for €45,500.

The Connacht Property Auction is now welcoming entries for its upcoming online and public auctions taking place on March 26 and April 29 respectively. With thousands of registered buyers and an impressive success rate, it seems The Connacht Property Auction will remain a popular method of selling and buying a wide range of properties. The company does not charge any upfront costs into the auction and takes on board all marketing and entry fees. In addition, the IAM Sold group which sells properties all over Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Great Britain has been confirmed as the largest auction provider in Ireland and the UK with more than 3,000 sales last year.
