ASYLUM SEEKERS and Irish people will join forces for a dance show, coming to Galway, which has been inspired by the lives of refugees and people in direct provision.
State Of Exception, by Catherine Young Dance, is in the Town Hall Theatre on Tuesday February 18 at 8pm. It features dancers Mufufau Yusuf, Vanessa Guevara, Marc Stevenson, and Alessandra Ruggeri, and musicians Vyvienne Long, Brian Fleming, Jade O'Connor, and Martin Scharer.
A multi-cultural interplay of dance, live music and text, the show delves into the world of asylum seekers to understand, connect, challenge, and tear down that which is erected to divide people, and instead asks audiences to find the common bonds we share.

"In the rehearsal room we are all equal and we learn from each other's cultures," said Catherine Young. "It’s a way to cut right to heart of what it is to be human - dancing and singing together, no barriers." The Arts Review said of the show: "Musically and choreographically State of Exception delivers a powerfully visceral experience, and one of the most compelling depictions of the refugee crisis to date".
Dance workshops associated with this show are running tomorrow and Friday February 14 from 7pm to 9pm at the Nuns Island Theatre, and supported by the Town Hall Theatre.
