Uachtarán na hÉireann, Michael D Higgins, will officially open Migrants, an exhibition of new works by leading Irish sculptor John Behan, and the first event of the Kenny Bookshop & Art Gallery's 80th Anniversary year.
The opening is on Monday February 3 at 5.30pm at The Kenny Gallery, Liosbán, Tuam Road, with Behan exploring one of the most pressing humanitarian issues of recent years. The Broigher Boat and the Famine ship have been significant motifs in Behan's work, but the Mediterranean dinghy of his new migrant themed sculptures has brought contemporary significance. They have been inspired by journeys to Greece and Cyprus, where he encountered refugees from Africa and the Middle-East.
.
Migrants is the first in Kenny's calendar of events running throughout 2020, its 80th year in business. All Kenny's events this year also form part of the Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture programme.
Admission is free and all are welcome to the opening. The show runs until February 29. See www.thekennygallery.ie
