TOMORROW BRITAIN formally - finally! - leaves the EU, which means we no longer have to pretend there are 28 EU member states or say the "remaining EU 27".
The ConTempo Quartet's From Europe With Love series, featuring music across the 27 EU countries, continues on Tuesday February 4 at 1.10pm in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, with the focus on Ireland.
The concert will hear ConTempo give the world premiere of Jane O’Leary's 'Forever begin… (Fanfare for a New Year )', a reflection on lines from Brendan Kennelly’s poem, 'Begin': "Something that will not acknowledge conclusion, insists that we forever begin."
There will also be a performance of 'String Quartet' composed by Ina Boyle (1889-1967 ), regarded as the most prolific and significant female composer from Ireland before 1950, and who was admired by Ralph Vaughan Williams. Written in 1934, 'String Quartet' was performed only once during her lifetime.
Admission is free. The guest speaker will be Galway City arts officer, James Harrold. Early arrival is recommended.
