Three reasons Corofin are winners

Management and set up: Kevin O’Brien is Corofin’s manager, but he will be the first to credit everyone involved in this set-up - coaches, strength and conditioning coach, dietician, stats team, and many more. Corofin are a most professional club outfit and it shows on the pitch, while off the pitch chairman Michael Ryder is credited with organsing the necessary funds, helped by club treasurer John Raftery and and secretary Jimmy McHugh.

Never-say-die attitude: On many occasions over the last three years Corofin have more than risen to the occasion, but there have been a few times when they have just scraped through. Look back to the All-Ireland semi-final of 2018 and the dreadful game against Moorefield where the entire country was baffled by the referee’s decision to send off Martin Farragher. The game was slow and scrappy, but it took a last-minute goal to advance. The drawn games in the 2017 Connacht semi-final and final were won in extra time, and of course, there were the last two county finals where they succeeded in forcing replays, thanks to scores with the last kick of the game from Michael Lundy (2018 ) and Gary Sice (2019 ). With huge mental strength, these players believe in themselves, their management and their process.

A talented group of players: Bernard Power in goal can kick a pin-point pass or kickout 70/80 yards and has been unflappable in goal in recent years. Kieran Fitzgerald is 39 years of age and in the physical condition of a 26-years, aged old inter-county player. Liam Silke has posted 5-8 from corner back throughout the entire championship. Dylan Wall. the toughest man to dispossess in all of Galway. Kieran Molloy, the talented free spirit who bombards defences with his runs. Dathai Burke, the footballer is the rock in midfield to allow Ronan Steede to control every game. Gary Sice and Jason Leonard, with their free taking and scores from play, always helping the team. Michael Farragher with his calming influence and incredible range of passing with leader and captain Michael Lundy, and the gifted Martin Farragher and Ian Burke inside. With a lot more talent on the bench, many of whom would be starting for nearly any other senior club, this is a group of massively talented individuals who have played as a team and achieved an incredible amount of success together. They play football how football should be played and many purists will hope this level of success continues until somebody out-footballs them, not out-defends them.
