Anne Frank documentary to be screened for Holocaust Remembrance Day

Helen Mirren presents a new look at Anne Frank's life, and hears from those who survived the Shoah

INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST Remembrance Day will be marked in Galway with the screening of the documentary, Anne Frank: Parallel Stories, in The Eye Cinema, from Monday January 27.

In Anne Frank: Parallel Stories, Helen Mirren explores Anne’s life through the pages of her famous diary, and what that diary tells us about what she hoped her future would be. The film looks at what would her life might have been like had she survived Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen, and examines the rise of racism and anti-Semitism in today's world.

Also featured are the stories of five Holocaust survivors (Arianna Szörenyi, Sarah Lichtsztejn-Montard, Helga Weiss and sisters Andra and Tatiana Bucci ) who shared Anne’s fate of deportation, suffering, and denial of their youth, but were fortunately able to go on and live the life Anne was denied. There will also be contributions from historians, as well as young people who are interested in Anne's story.

The film is rated 12A. For more information see www.eyecinema.ie or call 091 - 780078.
