Fantasy Football round 24 preview

In association with Monroes

Another game week and another three points for Liverpool. The Reds extended their enormous lead at the top of the Premier League thanks to a 2-0 victory over Man United at Anfield on Sunday. Elsewhere Man City drew 2-2 with Crystal Palace, Newcastle defeated Chelsea with a last minute winner in the northeast, and Norwich gave themselves hope of staying up thanks to a nervy 1-0 win over fellow strugglers Bournemouth in east Anglia.

But what have game week 23's results done to the leader board of the Advertiser Tribal League in association with Monroe's Tavern.

Top three

1 Cian de Lamport - Chris Woodbines - 1,411

Cian de Lamport probably thought it was a bad weekend for his charges when they only managed to pull in 46 points but the total was enough to send Chris Woodbines to the summit for the first time this season. Clean sheets for Ben Foster and Trent Alexander-Arnold plus two assists from Adama Traoré were crucial for The Woodbines as the rest of his team failed to make any significant impact during game week 23. With a taste for top spot, can de Lamport hold on to number one?

2 Declan Ryan - Decs Villains - 1,409

A points haul of 29 points represents a bad week for any Fantasy team but for Decs Villains the poor showing was punished as they dropped to second place. Aside from Trent Alexander-Arnold's 10 points, the rest of The Villains failed to get out of single digits. Captain Jamie Vardy missed a penalty which resulted in nul points for the striker. Over the course of a 38 game season, every side has a bad week, this was one of those weeks for Decs Villains.

3 Kieran Ryan - TheDodgyTickers - 1,403

With everyone struggling around him, Kieran Ryan and his Ticks made hay as they scored a big 68 points at the weekend, leaving them only eight points off first place. Goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga's penalty save and clean sheet saw him take home 14 points with Jack Grealish and Sergio Agüero securing 10 and 26 points respectively. The Ticks are right in the thick of this title race and now must be considered genuine title contenders.

Top picks

There is no rest for Fantasy managers with game week 24 kicking off on Tuesday evening. Who are the three players who will bring the bacon this round?

Mohamed Salah (Liverpool - £12.4 million ) v Wolves and West Ham

The Egyptian has had a relatively quiet season for himself with 10 goals and five assists before Sunday's showdown with Man United. However his injury time goal Anfield was his second in three games for The Reds and I have a feeling the midfielder-cum-striker is about to embark on a goal scoring run. Liverpool have two games this game week, thanks to their clash with West Ham being rescheduled from earlier in the season thanks to the Merseyside club's involvement at the Club World Cup. I expect two Liverpool victories with Salah getting his name on the score sheet. Make him your captain for double the points.

Jack Grealish (Aston Villa - £6.6 million ) v Watford

If Aston Villa stay up this season, it will be thanks to captain Jack Grealish. The 24-year-old who has represented Ireland and England at U21 level, is the creative heartbeat of The Villains. With five goals and two assists in his last two league outings, Grealish is driving his team's performances at present as Villa continue to struggle in the comeback season to the top flight. On Tuesday night Villa have a mega clash with fellow strugglers Watford. The Hornets who have been flying since Nigel Pearson took charge, find themselves one point and one place above their opponents. I believe this match, unlike many relegation clashes, will see plenty of goals. I am going for a 2-2 draw with Grealish to find the back of the net.

Sergio Agüero (Man City - £11.9 million ) v Sheffield United

I tipped the Argentinian for game week 23 and I am doing so again as the Man City striker stuck a brace against Crystal Palace in the Eastlands side's disappointing 2-2 draw on Saturday. Agüero has six goals in four league games since his comeback from injury. On Tuesday evening, the champions travel to the Steel City to take on high flying Sheffield United. Chris Wilder's men have been brilliant this season, making a mockery of the bookies' odds which said The Blades would be going straight back down to the Championship. I can see this being a close clash at Bramall Lane but Agüero will be the difference. Get him in your team.
