Deirdre and Donagh Healy, owners of The Bean Tree, have been cooking delicious, healthy, vegan and vegetarian food for most of their lives, so they had lots of experience before they started selling their food.
They cook and sell a range of vegan and vegetarian chilled and frozen meals, larger ‘party’ packs, and an interesting selection of confectionery, all vegetarian, with much of the food also vegan and/or gluten-free. Check out the menu at www.thebeantree.ie
The Healys' first venture into the food business was at London’s Portobello Road Market, selling their pea and potato curry and chapattis. Following their return to Ireland they set up a stall at St Nicholas Galway Saturday Market in 1996, which they still run, selling pea and potato curry, chapattis (Indian flat bread ), and stuffed chapattis.
At that time they prepared and cooked the food for the market in their domestic kitchen. They now work from a fully customised and HSE compliant commercial kitchen where the brilliant team cook a diverse range of vegan and vegetarian chilled and frozen meals and confectionery.
Visit The Bean Tree in Westside where you can select from a range of chilled and frozen food, or pick up a hot lunch between 12 noon and 3.30pm. You can also drop by The Bean Tree stall at St Nicholas' Saturday market.
