Galway choirs top the iTunes charts

GMIT Voices, GMIT Student choir, and Scoil Íde children’s choir score big with Home Alone theme song

'SOMEWHERE IN My Memory', the single by the GMIT Voices and the GMIT Student choir, with special guests, the Scoil Íde children’s choir, has hit No 1 in the Irish iTunes Christmas chart and the overall Irish iTunes chart

'Somewhere In My Memory', written by the great John Williams, composer of the soundtracks to Star Wars, Jurassic Park, etc, was originally featured in the 1990 film, Home Alone. The single was released last week and will raise funds for Galway Hospice. More than €1,000 has been raised so far, and the choirs are thrilled by the success, with the single out-performing Taylor Swift, Picture This, Harry Styles, and Lizzo.

“We had no idea this could happen and are delighted," said Sean Rowland, director of the two choirs. "GMIT Voices and the GMIT Student Choir only formed in February and September this year respectively. What started out as a Christmas project uniting the two college choirs has become so much more. We wanted to reach out to the community and spread some Christmas joy. Getting a Top 20 and a No 2, so far, in the iTunes chart is the icing on the Christmas cake. We want to thank everyone for their support."
