No Christmas rest for Galway clubs chasing All Ireland honours Ireland preparations over Christmas

Three Galway teams continue their preparations for the All Ireland club series as Christmas beckons.

Corofin senior footballers, the senior hurlers of St Thomas, and intermediate club Oughterard will all be in action in the New Year.

On January 4, football champions Corofin are looking to make history by becoming the first club to win All Ireland title three times in-a-row.

They face an opposition they know well, Cork's Nemo Rangers, having beaten the Munster champions in the All Ireland final of 2018.

The game will be televised live from Ennis.

That game will be followed by the second semi final between Down's Kilcoo and Dublin champions Ballyboden St Enda's.

On Sunday live coverage of the hurling semi-finals begin in Newry at 1.30pm with All Ireland Champions Ballyhale Shamrocks against Derry's Slaughtneil. But Galway's interest will be on the LIT Gaelic Grounds in Limerick for the hotly anticipated clash between Tipperary's Borris-Ileigh and St Thomas of Galway.

Borris-Ileigh have not been to this stage since 1986 when they won the competition out right, but the west's hopes rest with St Thomas' who reached the All Ireland final last year and were at the semi finals on three of the last four occasions. They last won the title in 2013.

The finals of the AIB Club Championships will be broadcast live on TG4 on Sunday January 19.

The intermediate club championship offers yet more interest for Galwegians with Oughterard up against Templenoe of Kerry.

That semi-final takes place at the LIT Gaelic Grounds Limerick on January 11 at 2pm,
