GRETB apprentice represents Ireland at the World Skills Competition

The National Skills Competition was held in the RDS in Dublin in March of this year as part of the Ireland Skills live event. This was a showcase of more than 20 varied skills in a competitive setting, the winners in each event having the opportunity to represent Ireland at the World Skills Olympics in Russia.

A number of Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board apprentices participated in the national competition, one of whom, Jack O’Donnell, went on to represent Ireland in the World Skills Competition last August. At that event, after three days of challenging competition, Mr O’Donnell was awarded a medallion for excellence in plumbing and heating.

Jack O’Donnell could not have achieved this without the help and support of his employer Terence McDonagh, Inverin.

In recognition of his achievement, Mr O’Donnell was given a special presentation at the GRETB Advanced Certificate Craft awards ceremony held recently in the Menlo Hotel.

GRETB thanks all the employers who supported its apprentices at the National and World Skills Competitions in 2019.
