People living on the Aran Islands and Inishbofin are to consulted on the development of the Government's new national policy for the islands, Aire don Ghaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hOileáin, Seán Kyne, has confirmed.
The consultations will take place through public meetings and workshops on Inis Mór, Inis Meain, Inis Óirr, and Inishbofin. As a result, Minister Kyne, along with officials from the Island’s Division of the Department of Culture, Heritage and Gaeltacht, will be visiting the islands over the next two months.
The new plan will seek to develop a comprehensive policy, accompanied by an action plan, to provide the supports to make island communities more resilient and sustainable. “The experiences and views of island communities are central to the planned new national, whole-of-government policy for the islands," said Minister Kyne.
Earlier this year, Minister Kyne established the interdepartmental committee on the island which produced a consultation document setting out current policies and programmes relating to island communities. It includes areas such as transport and connectivity, education and employment, infrastructure and tourism. The Minister said it "will help to guide both the consultation and the new policy".
