Handel’s Messiah in Galway Cathedral

Irish Baroque Orchestra to be joined by the Sestina Choir, Emma Morwood, Rachel Kelly, Anthony Gregory, and Edward Grint

HANDEL'S MESSIAH will forever have a place in the hearts and minds of Irish classical music enthusiasts as the work was premiered in Ireland, being performed as a charity fundraiser in Fishamble Street Hall, Dublin, in April 1742.

On Saturday December 7 at 7.30pm in Galway Cathedral, Music For Galway and the Irish Baroque Orchestra will perform this masterwork, featuring such famous pieces as ‘Comfort Ye’, ‘For Unto us a Child is Born’, and the unforgettable ‘Hallelujah’ chorus, on a bespoke stage.

The IBO will perform on period instruments. They will be joined by the Sestina Choir, along with soloists Emma Morwood (soprano ), Rachel Kelly (mezzo soprano ), Anthony Gregory (tenor ), and Edward Grint (bass ), under the baton of IBO artistic director Peter Whelan.
