Galway business takes top honours at Irish Auto Trade Awards

Kevin Burke Tyres of Athenry was an award winner at the annual Irish Auto Trade Awards 2020, which took place at Killashee House Hotel in Kildare last week.

The prestigious national awards programme, now in its sixth year, is a celebration of excellence in the automotive trade across the island of Ireland.

Kevin Burke and Shirley Halvey of Kevin Burke Tyres collected the Tyre Distributor Of The Year trophy from Dan Vassallo of sponsor Compilator. Winners from across the country were honoured in 26 categories, spanning aftersales, parts, components, tools, equipment and service.

Now with outlets in Athenry, Tuam Road, and Gort, Kevin Burke Tyres was established more than 20 years ago retailing tyres to Athenry and the local Galway area. Some 10 years ago it branched into wholesaling tyres, and carries a full range of tyres, including car, truck, agri and earthmover in all brands.

Retail auto businesses undergo a rigorous selection process that includes phone and personal mystery shops before final adjudicatication. Manufacturer and distributor companies were shortlisted based on votes received by readers of the Irish Auto Trade Journal over recent months.

Organiser Padraic Deane of Automotive Publications commented: “Standards continue to rise across the many categories covered by our awards. Businesses like Kevin Burke Tyres are setting the benchmark for their entire sectors.”

More Galway winners

Frank Byrnes Autobody Repairs of Oranmore was a regional winner in the Bodyshop of the Year category, while Sheils Motor Group, Galway and Tony Burke Motors, Galway, were Connacht Regional Winners in the Trade Parts Main Dealer of the Year and Aftersales Main Dealer of the Year categories respectively.

Next year’s awards will coincide with the Auto Trade EXPO, which is expected to attract more than 8,000 visitors to Citywest over two days in October 2020.
