Kick-start Science Week with a splash

Galway Atlantaquaria is gearing up for Science Week celebrations with a planned Sunday Funday.

Doors will be open for the November 11 family day from 11am with plenty of activities to help visitors understand climate change, how science and technology can help create a positive climate future, and the impact individuals can have on climate change.

Garry Kendellen of Galway Atlantaquaria, says this event is a wonderful way to kick off Ireland's largest science festival, and "with some excellent exhibits there is something for everyone".

Galway Science & Technology Festival manager, Anne Murray will launch the day's activities, which include Bricks 4 kids Lego themed workshops, Galway Critters animal science, climate science games with the aquarium education team, underwater exploration with SmartBay Ireland, animal identification with Seasearch Ireland & NUIGalway, a display by the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, art fun with Susie Quinn, and face painting.

Galway Atlantaquaria is Ireland’s largest native species aquarium, offering visitors a unique, interactive insight into the diversity of aquatic species that are found in Irish waters.

"As part of Science Week, the aquarium will promote the effect positive actions in our community and world can have on climate," says Garry Kendellen.

"Activities at Sunday Funday are designed to be accessible and engaging for all the family and will help children explore the science behind weather, climate and our daily actions. Join us as we celebrate our native marine species, science and enable you to connect with the sea."
