Galway leads All Star awards

Galway dominated this year's Camogie All-Stars team with seven awards for the All-Ireland senior champions.

Goalkeeper Sarah Healy, right corner-back Shauna Healy, fullback and captain Sarah Dervan, right half-back Heather Cooney, midfielders Aoife Donohue and Niamh Kilkenny, and forward Ailish O’Reilly received their Liberty Insurance sponsored awards at the Citywest Hotel on Saturday.

Galway’s Niamh Kilkenny also won the Camogie Association/WGPA Senior Players’ Player of the Year award following her player of the match displays in the All-Ireland semi-final and final, while Manager of the Year went to Galway's Cathal Murray.

Galway players were also in the line-up for the Soaring Stars awards for intermediate and junior competitions, with Laura Glynn, Dervla Higgins and Tara Ruttledge receiving awards after Galway finished the championship as runners-up.

Galway senior quarter-finals

An open draw for the semi-finals took place immediately afterwards with Sarsfields to play Mullagh and St Thomas to play Eyrecourt on Saturday, 2pm in Loughrea, after an open draw took place following the quarter-finals.

St Thomas were 3-14 2-11 winners over Oranmore/Maree last weekend.

In the intermediate championship semi-finals, Kiltullagh/Killimordaly will play Kinvara and Carnmore face Mountbellew/Moylough on Bank Holiday Monday, 2pm in Ballinasloe.

Kinvara were 4-13 0-6 winners over Clarinbridge; Mountbellew/Moylough edged their quarter-final with Ahascragh/Caltra by 0-15 2-8; Kiltullagh/Killimordaly were 1-15 2-8 over Castlegar, while Carnmore struck four goals in their victory, 4-14 1-10, over Shamrocks.

The Galway Camogie Junior A championship is at semi-final level with Bothár na Trá qualifying for the final with a hard-fought victory over Cois Fharraige by 0-19 to 3-7 over the weekend. The other semi-final between Liam Mellows and Ballinderreen will be played on Saturday.
