The public have really got behind Connacht Rugby side this season with record numbers expected though the gates and renewal rates of season tickets on a par with the unforgettable title-winning season of 2016.
The Connacht Rugby season is set to get off to a flying start this weekend as the squad travel to Wales to take on the Scarlets on Saturday. Unusually, the first game of the season kicks off four weeks later than the traditional season opener due to the ongoing World Cup schedule.
The extra month on the training field though has helped the Connacht side to build some serious momentum and they go into the first game of the competitive season with three wins from three over the preseason.
In August they were too strong for French side Oyonnax, while earlier this month they easily dispatched the Russian National side in Moscow. These wins were followed up by a 40 - 31 success over Munster in the Sportsground last Saturday, witnessed by almost 5,000 spectators at the College Road venue.
With Connacht’s return to Champions Cup action this season numbers are likely to swell even further. This year’s season ticket holder can look forward to clashes with the top teams in Europe including Toulouse, Gloucester, Montpellier and of course, near neighbours Munster and Leinster. So, much of the talent on show at the World Cup in Japan will be coming to Galway in the coming months and arguably the team of the PRO14 tournament last season, Italian side Benetton Rugby will be the first visitors to The Sportsground on Saturday October 5.
