Leading women in jazz and improv in concert

Two concerts on one night and in one venue for the Galway Jazz Festival 2019

TRISH CLOWES, a leading member of the new wave of young British improvising jazz musicians, and the pianists Kaja Draksler and Eve Risser, play headline shows at next month's Galway Jazz Festival.

Both shows will be in the Mick Lally Theatre, Druid, Lane, on Saturday October 5. Trish Clowes and her band, My Iris - James Maddern (drums ), Ross Stanley (piano ), Chris Montague (guitar ) - begin the evening at 7pm.

A multi-award tenor saxophone player, Clowes has won acclaim for her fearless, inventive, and creative approach to the instrument. MOJO said her music "covers vast emotional territory with verve and vim", while The Guardian called her music "exhilarating and darkly funky".

At 9.30pm, Slovenian pianist Kaja Draksler and her French partner in music Eve Risser, will be seated at two grand pianos, for a night of virtuosic technique and improvisational skills. Speaking about their music, Clean Feed records' Alexander Hawkins said "both pianists have the forensic inclination to mine the details of single sounds, they also possess the Ellingtonian conception of symphonic piano playing".

Tickets are available from The Mick Lally Theatre box office on 091 - 568660 or via www.galwayjazz.ie
