On Sunday Oughterard will be painted red, and green, and yellow, and blue - all in aid of the local playground and park facility, Corribdale Park.
The Colour Dash is being run by the newly-formed Oughterard Lions Club and is the club’s first fundraising event.
The Dash takes place over the three kilometres of track in Corribdale Park, which is in the centre of Oughterard. The fun run is aimed at families to help raise funds to cover the insurance and maintenance costs for Corribdale Park.
The park, which includes cycling and walking trails, as well as outdoor fitness equipment, a playground and a teen zone, is a superb amenity for the public and visitors, which is run, maintained and insured by volunteers from the local community.
Oughterard Lions Club president Sinead Grimes says it promises to be a great day.
“We are delighted to support this great family fun event. We hope this will be the first of many creative, enjoyable fundraising events run by the new Lions Club in the village.”
Participants are encouraged to wear white t-shirts and run, jog or walk to the finish line, getting covered head-to-toe in coloured powder. Sunglasses are also recommended. With four dye zones throughout the route, there is no escaping from the full-on fun of the most colourful event.
Costs are €10 per adult, €5 per child. Registration for the event will open at 12.30pm on the day at the O’Malley GAA dressing rooms in Corribdale Park, or tickets are available online at https://corribdalecolourdash.eventbrite.ie
The dash starts at 2pm.
SSE Airtricity, Seamus McDonagh Plant Hire, Electronic Concepts Ltd, and Faherty Wholesale Ltd are sponsoring the event.
