The final group games for the 2019 club football championship takes place this weekend.
With four teams qualified and four more yet to qualify, this year's system of three groups of six has been a success that will continue into 2020.
GROUP ONE
Fixtures: Saturday
Bearna v An Spideal, Moycullen 3.15pm
St Michael's v Killererin, Kenny Park 3.15pm
Salthill-Knocknacarra v Milltown, Tuam Stadium 3.15pm
Group one of the Galway club championship is still wide open with the final round of games to play.
Only Salthill-Knocknacarra have guaranteed themselves progression, while only Bearna cannot qualify.
A win for St Michael's over Killererin will see them through, but anything less will leave it wide open for Killererin, An Spideal or Milltown to qualify, depending on results elsewhere.
Milltown, Killererin or An Spideal can all still qualify for the next phase or find themselves in a relegation battle which is why all three games will be played simultaneously at 3.15 on Saturday afternoon.
It is an extremely competitive group which has kept everyone in Galway entertained since Milltown’s dramatic comeback and draw against Killererin on the opening weekend.
Fixtures: Sunday
Corofin v Leitir Mor, An Spideal 12.30pm
Tuam Stars v Claregalway, Kenny Park 2pm
St James v Annaghdown, Kenny Park 3.45pm
Group two is all but sewn up with just one game of relevance to be played.
Regardless of the result in the Corofin v Leitir Mór fixture, Kevin O’Brien's seven-in-a-row seeking team will top the group, while Leitir Mór will finish in the relegation places.
This year's two surprise packages, Tuam Stars and Claregalway, will go head-to-head to see who finishes second in the group.
The meeting of St James’and Annaghdown in Kenny Park late on Sunday afternoon will decide which club goes into the relegation round-robin with Leitir Mór. The victors will guarantee their safety for the 2020 season.
GROUP THREE
Monivea/Abbey v Killanin, Pearse Stadium 3.15pm
Moycullen v Caherlistrane, Kenny Park 5pm
Mountbellew/Moylough v An Cheathru Rua, Pearse Stadium 5pm
Group three sees Moycullen, Monivea-Abbey and the runners-up from 2018 and 2019, Mountbellew/Moylough, all level on six points, with Killanin, on four points, still in with a chance of qualification.
The bottom two teams, An Cheathrú Rua and Caherlistrane, have struggled right throughout and will be in the relegation groups.
Mountbellew/Moylough and Moycullen will play An Cheathrú Rua and Caherlistrane respectively, which would be expected to leave Killanin and Monivea-Abbey fighting it out for third place in the group.
