Major opportunity to develop shuttle bus services from Wild Atlantic Way into South Galway venues, says Cannon

An East Galway TD has said that the launch later in 2019 of the Burren Discovery Trail will lead to the development of key services for visitors to South Galway.

Minister for the Diaspora and International Development Ciaran Cannon has said that one major opportunity would be the development of shuttle bus services that can take visitors to sites like Coole Park or Thoor Ballylee and into towns like Gort.

“I`m pleased to see that as part of the process of revamping of services at the Cliffs of Moher visitor site, a new shuttle bus service has been introduced during peak season which will operate eight times daily from Ennistymon, Lahinch, Lisdoonvarna and Doolin to the iconic venue”.

“This, of course, takes pressure off the parking facilities at the site but also ensures that visitors have an extra option when it comes to accessing the Cliffs and its facilities”.

“The recent news confirmed for me by Fáilte Ireland about the launch of the Burren Discovery Trail later this year will be a major boost to our own sites and attractions in South Galway and I believe it also represents a key opportunity to develop services that cater for all needs of visitors”.

“Among these services, I would suggest, is the development of shuttle bus services, much like those for the Cliffs of Moher, which can take visitors who would like to travel in larger groups from points nearby on the Wild Atlantic Way to sites like Coole Park and Thoor Ballylee and into towns like Gort”.

Minister Cannon said that any initiative that help build on an area’s potential to the benefit of rural tourism and business would be well positioned to apply for support from funding streams like the LEADER programme and he urged tour operators in the county to consider the initiative.
