A concert in Thoor Ballylee

County Galway soprano Helen Hancock to present 'The Art Of Song'

ORANMORE SOPRANO, Helen Hancock will give a concert, entitled The Art of Song, in the Yeats Tower of Thoor Ballylee on Saturday August 24 at 8pm as part of Heritage Week.

Helen, in her fifth year of vocal studies with international tenor Owen Gilhooly, has just returned from Abingdon Summer School for Solo Singers in Britain, and is looking forward to the recital, where she will be accompanied by pianist Mark Keane. "I love singing with Mark Keane and Thoor Ballylee is a gorgeous intimate performance space," said Helen. "I always enjoy explaining the background to the songs and arias which brings them to life for the audience."

The programme will feature baroque, opera, art song, lieder, and musical theatre. Admission is €10 (adults ) and €5 (children ). Refreshments will be available at the interval.

Other upcoming events at Thoor Ballylee are a talk on old farming techniques by archaeologist, Dr Christy Cunniffe (Saturday August 17, 2pm ), followed by walk to the mill by the river. 'The Story of Butter' with food historian Anna O'Donnell at 2pm on Wednesday 21. Admission to these events is free.
