Hairy seamen to go smooth for charity

A group of local business people are getting their beards shaved in aid of Cancer Care West and Aids partnership with Africa.

This is not your typical shavathon as it is taking place in the middle of Galway Bay this Saturday 3rd of August 3. Over 20 hairy men have grown beards over the last number of weeks and all will get shaved this Saturday in aid of two very worthy causes.

One of the oganisers Joe Brady stated they wanted to do something to support these two charities which are very close to their hearts and wanted to come up with something unique.

“All of the group are boat people and are passionate seamen, so we decided to grow our beards and have them shaved out at sea,” he said.

Each participant is fundraising, and the support already received from local business has been extraordinary.

If individuals or local businesses would like to get involved and support the fundraising drive please log on the Cancer Care Website www.cancercarewest.ie
