Numbers set to increase at Thoor Ballylee

An East Galway TD has welcomed the awarding of a 2019 tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence to Thoor Ballylee.

Minister for the Diaspora and International Development Ciaran Cannon has expressed confidence that the site, which had almost 4,500 visitors last year, will see that number increase “significantly” with knock-on benefits for the local heritage and tourism sector.

“I’m delighted to see that a 2019 tripadvisor Certificate of Excellence has been awarded to Thoor Ballylee which recognises continuously great service for customers and visitors,” he said.

“The experience at this attraction was enhanced just a few months ago with the opening of a new studio for craftworkers and artists and despite the passage of 80 years since the death of Yeats, his name continues to be a draw for visitors in any of the sites associated with him,” he said.

Between April and October of 2018, Thoor Ballylee saw visitor numbers of about 4,400 with a full schedule of cultural events including drama and different talks.

Minister Cannon said that he has every confidence that as the Burren Discovery Trail brings a greater stream of visitors into South Galway, we will see numbers to Thoor Ballylee increase significantly with knock-on benefits for the local heritage and tourism sector.
