Esker Festival Orchestra to play NUI Galway

Orchestra's summer Irish tour to see performances of work by Prokofiev, Kodaly, Strauss, and Irish composer Donagh Marnane

'WATER MUSIC' a new work by Irish composer Donagh Marnane will receive its world premiere as part of the Esker Festival Orchestra's summer tour, which takes in Galway on Thursday August 8.

The concert takes place in NUI Galway's Emily Anderson Concert Hall. As well as 'Water Music', the concert will also hear performances of Prokofiev's Symphony No 1 'Classical'; Kodaly's Dances of Galanta; and Richard Strauss's Horn Concerto No 2.

The orchestra will be conducted by Belfast's Paul McCusker, a member of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, and winner of the Hugh S Roberton prize and the 2018 Feis Ceoil Conducting Competition. The soloist will be Wexford's Hannah Miller on French horn. She is a member of Kirkos Ensemble and has performed with Crash Ensemble.

The director of the Esker Festival Orchestra is Galwegian Peter Joyce. A musician, conductor, and composer, he is a former member of the Black Magic Big Band. He has worked with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra, RTÉ Concert Orchestra, the Ulster Orchestra, Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli, Imelda May, Liam Ó Maonlaí, and Hozier.
