Galway’s islands could be set to benefit from an initiative, the Interdepartmental Committee for Island Development, which would comprise representatives from Government departments and be chaired by Minister Seán Kyne.
This week, the Cabinet held a special meeting to discuss the establishment of a the new interdepartmental committee. The committee will work to develop a cross-Government Islands’ policy and is set to hold its first meeting in September.
“The significance and importance of the islands to our culture and our language has long been recognised,” said Aire don Ghaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hOileáin, Seán Kyne.
