When it come to interviews, we are all looking for the edge that will see us receive the nod of approval. However, in an ever increasing competitive job market where there are more applicants than positions, there are many aspects in a job interview which we need to consider.

Here at the advertiser.ie we provide some tips on how to ace that interview and secure the job.

1. Prepare answers to questions

OK you cannot prepare for every question in a job interview but there are a few standard questions which come up constantly. 'Tell me about yourself', 'Why do you want this job?' and, 'What are your weaknesses?' are questions that you can rehearse with a friend or family member before the big day. Bring a notepad and pen with you so you can write the questions after the interview so you can prepare those questions for another interview in a similar role should you fail to secure the position.

2. Research

Like an exam, it is important that you study the company and the role to which you are applying so that you have a basic understanding of how the company operates and what is expected from you in the role. Make sure for every requirement in the job description that you have an example in mind of when you have demonstrated that skill.

3. Have your own questions

Interviews can be nerve-wracking experiences and we all want to be out of the 'interrogation' as soon as possible but it is always important to ask a few questions at the end of an interview. This shows the panel that you have an interest in whether you are the right for the business.

4. Look the part

It is said 'never judge a book by its cover', however, in job interviews appearances have a crucial impact on an interviewer's perception. First impressions count; smile; have a firm handshake; and be confident.

There you have it. A few tips to secure that job. Go get it.
