A jazz night with the New Orleans Swamp Donkeys

Jazz from the heart of the music's birthplace - New Orleans

THE HISTORY of New Orleans jazz is, in many respects, the early history and origins of jazz itself, and The New Orleans Swamp Donkeys style is resolutely that of The Big Easy.

The New Orleans Swamp Donkeys, who play the Róisín Dubh this Sunday [July 7] at 8pm, perform trad jazz, blues, vaudeville, original music, and modern jazz adaptations, in addition to a variety of New Orleans-derived styles.

Formed in 2012, within two years, the band sold-out The Blue Note New York City in 2014 and released the albums Swamp Donkey (pre-1930s covers ) and Donkey Business (original material ), and closed out the first weekend of New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival.

The group gained internet fame when their version of the Game Of Thrones theme, performed at BB King's in New York, went viral, growing past a million views. This has led to the band touring Europe, with appearances in recent years at JazzAscona (Switzerland ), Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain ), the North Sea Jazz Festival (The Netherlands ), Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Fest, Monte Carlo Sporting Summer Fest, and Jazz à Megève (New Orleans ).

Tickets are available from www.roisindubh.net; the Ticket Desk at OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; and The Róisín Dubh.
