Ireland’s largest group of family restaurants, Supermac’s, will open its first outlet in Co Wexford this coming Friday (June 28 ). The company has 117 outlets throughout the country and is set to open its 118th in Larkins Cross. The new outlet will be operated by Paul O’ Brien, who also holds franchises for Carlow and Killarney.
The new outlet in Larkins Cross will consist of a Supermac’s, Papa John’s, Londis and Top Oil and has seating for up to 60 customers. It will also have a drive-thru.
“I am delighted to have the opportunity to open the 1st Supermac’s outlet in Wexford,” Paul O’Brien said. “On behalf of everyone associated with the outlet, I would like to thank everyone that has helped to bring this to fruition.”
Supermac’s is Ireland’s largest indigenous quick service restaurant chain. The franchise currently has over 117 outlets across the country. Supermac’s also operates the Papa John’s Pizza brand and SuperSubs which provide Supermac’s customers with additional healthy options. The latest store to open was the Kinnegad Plaza at the junction of the M4 and M6.
Pat McDonagh & his wife Una are also the owners of the Só Hotel Group that includes the Castletroy Park Hotel in Limerick, the Loughrea Hotel & Spa, the Charleville Park Hotel in Cork, the Killeshin Hotel in Portlaoise, the Athlone Springs Hotel and the Castle Oaks House Hotel in Castleconnell.
“We have over 40 franchisees that have over 70 outlets throughout the country,” said Supermac’s MD, Pat McDonagh, “and we are always on the lookout for good people to franchise with. Our franchisees are a hugely important part of the Supermac’s story and many off them started with us and then went on to run their own outlets.
“Paul O’Brien was working in our O Connell Street branch in Dublin and he went on to manage it. He now has four outlets, two in Carlow, one in Killarney and will open our newest outlet in Co Wexford tomorrow. Myself and Una would like to wish Paul and his team every success with the outlet in Larkins Cross, which is hugely significant one for Supermac’s in that it is our first in the county.
Supermac’s has operated the franchise model since 1988 when it franchised the Supermac’s on Bridge Street at the bottom of Shop Street in Galway to Frank Murray, who had worked with the company since 1982.
The Supermac’s franchise base is increasing every year as new franchisees come on board or existing franchisees expand their business. The key components of the Supermac’s brand are that Supermac’s is a family owned, indigenous Irish business serving fresh Irish produce with a particular emphasis on customer service.
These components have developed over the 40 years that the company has been in business. Supermac’s recently announced that it would spend €40million on Irish agriculture this year and this was in a large part due to new store openings. “We will be opening further outlets throughout the year and this will bring our total number of outlets to almost 120 across the country and we are always looking at new opportunities,” Mr McDonagh said.
