Gardai have warned Toyota Prius owners to be particularly mindful when securing their vehicles following a series of incidents involving the theft of catalytic converters from these cars.
Three Priuses were targeted by thieves in less than a week.
On the night of Wednesday June 19 a catalytic convertor was taken from a car parked in the Carraig Geal estate in Loughrea town. Cutting the catalytic converter from the would have involved a considerable amount of noise. Anyone who heard or saw anything out of the ordinary in Loughrea on Wednesday June 19 is asked to contact Loughrea Garda Station at 091 842870.
At some point during the day or night of Sunday June 23, a catalytic convertor was taken from a car parked in the Lios an Uisce estate on the Tuam Road. Anyone with information on this can contact Galway Garda Station at 091 538000.
On Sunday night the catalytic convertor was taken from a vehicle in Corrib Village, Newcastle. Anyone who witnessed anything unusual in the area on Saturday night is asked to contact Galway Garda Station at 091 538000.
Prius owners are asked to be particularly mindful when securing their vehicles, especially at night, and to use secure parking where possible.
Gardai are also asking people to lock their vehicle when unattended, particularly at night. Put all property out of sight and never leave valuables in a parked vehicle.
