Black Dragon fighter Dara Mannion from Westside in Galway headlined a big boxing and kickboxing fight night in the Clayton Hotel Galway at the weekend on a 17 fight card.
Mannion took on Limerick kickboxer Luke Short in a scheduled four round eliminator bout at -69.5 kg with the winner going forward to fight for the All Ireland Super Welterweight Kickboxing Title on October 12.
Short was doing well in the first round but Mannion started to come in to his own in the second round and landed some heavy leg kicks and left hooks which damaged the game Limerick man's left leg and jaw.
When the bell sounded for round three, it looked like something was going on in Short's corner as the ringside doctor, Dr Alison Hay, was called in and after some examination it was decided Short would not come out due to his injuries, giving Mannion a TKO victory.
The second -69.5kg eliminator fight between two more fighters from around the country will take place on September 7 in Waterford with the winner taking on Mannion for the title in the Clayton Hotel, Galway on Saturday October 12.
Another Black Dragon fighter Jamie O Sullivan from Clonberne will also feature that night as he takes on Mayo Ffghter James Kelly for the vacant Light Cruiserweight Title at -85.5kg. These two have history each has a TKO victory over the other, so it should be a cracking fight this time over five rounds.
There will also be a five man International team event that night featuring Ireland versus Germany.
A raffle in aid of Madra Dog Rescue collected €1,000 during the fightnight at the Clayton Hotel Galway.
