Aimee Banks to open Galway Cathedral Summer Recitals 2019

Musicians from across Europe to play at 26th series of concerts in the Cathedral

ACCLAIMED GALWAY soprano Aimee Banks makes her Galway Cathedral Summer Recitals debut on Thursday July 4, the opening date of this latest series of summer concerts, now in it's 26th year.

For the opening concert, Aimee will be joined by County Louth pianist Justin O’Hagan, and their programme will feature light opera, art song, and Irish folk.

The next concert will be on July 11 from St John’s Voices, the adult choir of St John’s College, Cambridge, who will performs 'Messe Solenelle' by 20th-century French organist and composer Jean Langlais, as well as pieces from the Renaissance and baroque repertoires.

Ensemble Bleu, the chamber choir of St George’s Church, Küsnacht, Switzerland, will present a programme of choral and organ music on July 18, centred around the Missa Brevis in F by 19th-century German composer Josef Rheinberger.

Galway Cathedral organist Raymond O’Donnell will perform music based on Gregorian chant and JS Bach's variations on a Lutheran hymn, on July 25.

On August 1, Pedro Alberto Sanchez, the Spanish Augustinian priest, organist, and director of music at the Royal Monastery of St Lorenzo, El Escorial, near Madrid, will play music by Bach and Spanish composers of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.

Concluding the series on August 8 is Kai Krakenberg, organist of St Mary’s Church, Husum, Germany. He will play work by 19th- and 20-century French and English composers.
