Kevin Gildea to headline the Comedy KARLnival

An Irish comedy godfather - live in Galway

ALONGSIDE BARRY Murphy and Ardal O'Hanlon, Kevin Gildea is one of the godfathers of modern Irish comedy, through their founding of the comedy sketch group Mr Trellis, and Dublin's longest-running comedy club, The Comedy Cellar.

Gildea, a writer, performer, dancer, matador, and astronaut (these last two may not be true ), as well as a comedian, will headline the Comedy KARLnival at the Róisín Dubh on Tuesday July 2 at 8pm.

Gildea's mild manner and quirky absurdist viewpoint create side-splittingly funny ruminations that have seen his Edinburgh Fringe shows regularly achieve critical acclaim and sell-out runs. He has also written for Irish Pictorial Weekly and appeared on The Stand Up Show and The Amnesty International Comedy Special. He also played Fr Cave in Father Ted. The Sunday Times called him, "highly original and explosively funny".

Also on the bill is Washington DC born, Dublin based, Jim Elliott who appears regularly at Dublin's Laughter Lounge, International Comedy Club, and Comedy Crunch, and Belfast's The Empire. He has also performed at the Sky Cat Laughs Festival, Kilkenny; Vodafone Comedy Festival Dublin; Longitude; Forbidden Fruit; and Body & Soul.

Support is from Ruth Hurl. The MC is Karl Spain. Tickets are €8 in advance from Róisín Dubh; www.roisindubh.net; and OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; or €10 at the door.
