Galway’s Civil Defence is in line for one of 16 new emergency response vehicles, which are being provided through money from the Dormant Accounts fund.
The Minister with responsibility for Defence, Paul Kehoe, has allocated funding for 16 Ford Ranger Crewcab Pickup vehicles for Civil Defence Units. The purchase of was approved by Minister Kehoe this week, as part of a €500,000 allocation from the Dormant Accounts fund of the Department of Community and Rural Development.
Dep Seán Kyne, the FG Galway West TD and Aire Stáit don Ghaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hOileáin, said this will equip the civil defence unit in Galway with a new four-wheel drive jeep that has the capacity to respond to national emergencies and extreme weather events.
“We are very fortunate to have a team of committed and dedicated volunteers in Galway through the civil defence,” he said. “This new vehicle will support their work in assisting organisations such as the HSE, the ambulance service, and the Galway County Council.”
His constituency colleague, Dep Hildegade Naughton, said: “I am delighted to note that Galway Civil Defence have been allocated a new vehicle to add to their fleet. The volunteers in the civil defence do enormous work, often in perilous conditions, and need and deserve appropriate equipment.”
