People of the Tribes: Meet Ciarán.

In association with McGettigans

Hi, my name is Ciaran Kenny I am originally from Kilbarrack the Northside of Dublin. I played football & hurling from a very early age with my club Naomh Barrog GAA Club. I went on to coach the future & next generation in my club where I'm still heavily involved as I was elected onto the executive 2 years ago. Sorry, Galway, it is all about your parish!

I went to Greendale Community school in Kilbarrack were I was thought by RODDY DOYLE so the snapper was in bedded into me! Oh, and it gets better! A small man that played midfield for Dublin in that great epic game of 1983 became known as the 12 apostles, Mr Brian Mullins was my PE teacher! So as you can imagine there is a small wild streak in me on the pitch.

I always had a great grá for Galway as my father is from East Galway. It's there where I spent all my entire summers on the bog and back the fields in Woodlawn. I always knew from a very early age I would end up west of the Shannon!

I moved here for good in 2012 set up base in Oranmore, as a senior member of the GAA family, I had a very keen interest in the great success of Oranmore Marree senior hurling team. I got to know a few of the lads on the team Sean Mc, Simon Dunne, Mark Hannify, Liam Keane to name but a few. A great committed bunch of lads. For the past 2 years, I decided to contribute a few pounds into the team, just to show my appreciation for the great lift and entertainment they have brought to the parish of Oranmore!

I set up my own taxi minibus service here in 2017, like the GAA,  I provide a great service for all overnight or same day return trip to HQ for the big match days, concerts and I even cater to lovely shopping trips!

Finally, I am a volunteer with Action Ireland. We provide logistics and upkeep for schools in very poor regions of South Africa, Lesotho. I travelled there for 3 weeks work on the 12 February last, this trip would not have been possible only for such warmth and kind donations from the people of Galway.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who helped along the way!
