THEY HAVE “a strong, new independent sound", according to Folk Radio UK; Rocking Magpie said they "don’t sound like any other band”; while Three Chords and the Truth called them “intriguing and fascinating”.
They are British-American folk, roots, and Americana duo A Different Thread - Robert Jackson from Lichfield, England and Alicia Best from North Carolina - who play the upstairs bar of the Róisín Dubh this Saturday [May 18] at 8pm.
While the duo, who are both songwriters and multi-instrumentalists, describe their music as British Americana, they actually met in Galway in 2016 when they both happened to be busking on Shop Street. Since then, they have released the critically acclaimed debut album, On A Whim; performed at the Shrewsbury Folk Festival; featured on NPR’s: The State of Things with Frank Stasio, followed by a sell out concert at ISIS music hall, Asheville; earned praise from singer-songwriter Steve Earle; and toured the USA, Mexico, and Guatemala.
