Peamount United extended their lead of the Women’s National League at the expense of Galway WFC on Saturday in Eamonn Deacy Park.
The Dubliners continued their unbeaten record with a 2-1 win, but they were made to work hard by the home side.
The league leaders had struck early, surprising Galway within a minute when Louise Masterson split the defence before putting the ball over Tina Hughes and into the net to give the visitors the lead.
However Galway gained some momentum when Lynskey McKey came close after a good build-up by Elle O’Flaherty, amd eventually the pressure paid off when equalised through Tessa Mullins in the 29th minute. From a great free-kick by Sinead Donovan, Tessa Mullins sent the the ball past Peamount United’s McAloon.
Late goal seals visitors’ win
The visitors came close at the start of the second half, while Galway should have taken the lead after O’Flaherty found Aoife Thompson, but here strike was batted away to keep the sides level.
Thompson was one-on-one with McAloon in the Peamount goal, but the striker’s shot was batted away to keep the sides level.
However the game was decided forward Amber Barrett took control in the 76th minute when her shot had sufficient power to find the top corner of the net and grab the three points on offer.
