Mik Pyro to play first solo show in Galway

Former Republic Of Loose lead singer to release debut solo album later this year

MIK PYRO is no stranger to Galway having played the city many times before as leader of The Republic Of Loose, but when he returns next week, it will be to play his first show as a solo artist.

During a 10 year career, The Republic of Loose's mix of funk, soul, and indie saw them enjoy hit singles with ‘The Steady Song’, ‘You Know It’, ‘I Like Music’ and ‘Comeback Girl’; receive radio play; go double platinum; sell out venues in Ireland, Britain, and the USA; and earn the admiration of Bono, Sinead O'Connor, Snow Patrol, and Shane MacGowan.

The demise of the band coincided with a difficult period in Mik's life. Having been sober for five years, he veered intermittently back into his addictions while watching his parents die. Music, and the need to create, however, got him through those traumatic times, and resulted in last year's single 'Very Strange'. His debut solo album is due out later this year, and will feature members of Republic Of Loose guesting on various tracks, as well as vocal contributions from Gavin Friday.

Mik Pyro plays the Róisín Dubh on Friday May 17 at 8pm. Tickets are available from www.roisindubh.net; the Ticket Desk at OMG@Zhivago, Shop Street; and The Róisín Dubh.
