Keanu Reeves season at the Pálás

The actor has starrede in some of the most popular films of the last 30 years

FROM BILL and Ted's Excellent Adventure to Speed to The Matrix, to the more recent John Wick movies, Keanu Reeves has starred in some of the most popular films of the last 30 years.

This year Reeves will celebrate his 55th birthday, and with that in mind, the Pálás Cinema is hosting Keanurama, a season of his films from Friday May 10 to Friday July 12.

The season begins with a double bill of John Wick 1 and 2 (May 10 ). John Wick is a retired hitman who keeps to himself until a sadistic mobster steals his car and murders his puppy. This act of cruelty sets Wick back into kick-ass mode. The new John Wick movie, Chapter 3: Parabellum, will be shown on May 15.

Two films where Reeves is joined by Winona Ryder will also be screened: Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992 ), Francis Ford Copolla's often maligned, but tremendously fun adaptation of the Irish horror classic (May 11 and 12 ), and Destination Wedding, where they star as cynical, misanthropic strangers who begin hating each other only to later (maybe ) fall in love (May 10 ).

Bank robberies and bromance will be the order of the day in Point Break (1991 ) with Reeves starring alongside the late Patrick Swayze. See it on July 4 or July 6, as part of a cocktail party in the bar, the dress code for which will be palm-tree shorts and neon flip-flops.

Those looking for something a little more arty, should see My Own Private Idaho (1991 ), directed by Gus Van Sant, and also starring the late River Phoenix. One of Keanu’s most nuanced performances and a classic of queer cinema, it follows two street hustlers, as they embark on a journey of personal discovery which takes them from Portland, Oregon, to Idaho, and then Rome.

No Reeves season would be complete without The Matrix films (screening date TBC ); the sheer fun of the Bill and Ted films (June 23 ); or another outing for 1994 hit, Speed, also starring Sandra Bullock and Dennis Hopper. Other screenings include A Scanner Darkly, Parenthood, River's Edge, The Devil's Advocate, and Toy Story 4 (from June 21 ), with Reeves voicing the character of stunt-toy Duke Kaboom.
